How to stand out? It is a critical part of marketing. There are literally tens of millions of blogs online; most with few or no visitors at all. Making a name for yourself is the only real option to start earning some money on the internet, and to make this happen you need to understand a few basic principles:

Don’t write content for content’s sake

You will hear a lot of advice about “content being king” and that you have to provide content so as to promote your business or website. The problem which many have however is that they see content as an end in itself. They believe that somehow making content will give them the shares and the SEO they need to help boost the profile of their website. It doesn’t work like that. If you don’t provide value; don’t expect any valuable leads or sales in return.

Position your website and branding

Before writing any content whatsoever, you need to have a detailed understanding of the market you are going into. The reason being is not only to check out the competition but also to identify where you fit in to the market. What can you offer which others can’t? The creation of this brand identity has to seep into your content too. What are you providing readers with which is different to the competition out there? Are you making the subject matter easier to understand? Do you have incredibly original content which people can’t find anywhere else? Do you have a style of writing which is appreciated by the reader? Take these components and make them the core of your content marketing strategy.

Build credibility, reputation and become a ‘Thought Leader’

Once you understand the first two principles, you will be ready for the third and final stage. Creating content which is original and though provoking will help you stand out from the crowd. Not only push this content to your fans on social networking sites but alos ensure that other influencers within your niche see it as well. In return share content from others which you deem valuable. Don’t just share anything, be selective, and the same goes when curating content. Quality control in this area will help build credibility, increasing your reputation.
Building yourself up this way, ensuring quality at all turns is the key. Not creating content for content’s sake, adding value to a conversation, defining yourself in contrast to everyone else in your niche and sharing all content which you deem appropriate will see you well on your way to becoming a ‘Thought Leader‘ in your market. It will take time and energy both through content and social media marketing but using these tips, you can really stick out among the millions of sites online.
